Enhanced Email Security Policies
Some account owners have been notified that ITS is applying stricter security policies to their UConn email. This is because they have a heightened level of access that makes them potential targets for scams. Below is information about the changes.
You will receive a notification from ITS if these policy changes are being applied to your account.
Quarantined Messages
With a stricter email anti-phish policy, more messages may be quarantined. You will receive a digest message that lists the emails quarantined. You may review them, and if they are legitimate, have them released.
Spoof and Impersonation Protection
Messages may also contain informational alerts designed to help recipients detect and protect themselves from spoof and impersonation attacks.
If your message has one or more of these banners, please be cautious about interacting with it (downloading, clicking links, or responding).
A question mark in place of a profile picture: This means that the sender has failed the authentication checks that make sure a message is sent from a legitimate person.
Banner messages, first time senders: If you are the only recipient, you will see, “You don’t often get email from…” If there are multiple recipients, you will see, “Some people who received this message don’t often get email from…”
Banner message, sender’s name is similar to but not the same as a previous sender: You will see, "This sender appears to be similar to someone who previously sent you an email but may not be that person."
Banner message, possible domain impersonation: When you receive a message from a domain (name of a website) that is similar to uconn.edu, you will see, “This sender might be impersonating a domain that's associated with your organization."
