There is a direct relationship between the Taken and Earned fields based on the associated grade of that particular course.

Course Type

Taken

Earned

Synonymous with Attempted Credits; the student started the course.

The student completed the course with a passing grade.

Associated Grades

Associated Grades include:

  • A+ – D-

  • F(ailure)

  • W(ithdrawal)

  • S(atisfactory)

  • U(nsatisfactory)

  • R(egistered) (Graduate Students only grade)

  • P(ass)

  • Repeat Forgiveness

  • Temporary Grades

    • N (No basis for grade)

    • I (Incomplete grade)

    • X (Final assessment absence)

Associated Grades include:

  • A+ – D-

  • S(atisfactory)

  • P(ass)

Note: Blank grades represent In Progress courses where the student is currently enrolled but has yet to be graded.

Associated Grades not included:

  • F(ailure)

Using the following exhibit of the student’s Term History pages as an example:

Using the following exhibit of the student’s transcript as an example:

  1. Transferred Credits:  The student transferred in 6 credits.

    1. Taken:

      1. Value:  6

      2. Explanation:  Regardless of the grade, the student attempted these courses.

    2. Earned:

      1. Value:  6

      2. Explanation:  The student earned a passing grade for each course

  2. Test Credits

    1. Taken: 

      1. Value:  4

      2. Explanation:  Regardless of the grade, the student attempted the test for the course.

    2. Earned:

      1. Value:  4

      2. Explanation:  The student earned a passing test grade

  3. UConn work – Fall 2020

    1. Taken:

      1. Semester

        1. Value:  15

        2. Explanation:  Regardless of the grades (including F and W), the student attempted these courses.

        3. Note:  Repeat Forgiveness:  The course indicates that the student took the course again in a subsequent term; however, the credits count toward Attempted Credits.

      2. Cumulative:

        1. Value:  25 = 6 transferred credits, 4 test credits, 15 attempted credits

    2. Earned:

      1. Semester

        1. Value:  0

        2. Explanation:  The student did not earn any passing grades (including F and W); therefore, no credits have been earned on these courses

        3. Note:  Repeat Forgiveness:  The course indicates that the student took the course again in a subsequent term; the credits do not count toward earned credits in this term regardless of the grade associated with the course in this term.

      2. Cumulative:

        1. Value:  10 = 6 transferred credits, 4 test credits, 0 earned credits

        1. Value:  0

        2. Explanation:  Because these courses are "In Progress", no credits have been earned on these courses.

      2. Cumulative:

        1. Value:  103 = 6 transferred credits, 4 test credits, 103 + 0 earned credits
