To Manage NetID go to : https://netid.uconn.edu/

Finding NetIDs

If a student does not know their NetID, direct them to the NetID web page.

  1. Click Find NetID.

  2. Enter first name, last name, and date of birth into the appropriate boxes, then select Find your NetID.

  3. The student should then be able to see their NetID.

Note

If this system does not find their NetID, we need to verify their identity BEFORE we provide it. To verify a client’s identity, ask for 2 of the 3 pieces of information listed (In order of priority):

  • Last 4 Digits of the Social Security

  • Date of Birth

  • Personal Email Address

Activating Accounts

In order for the client to activate their account, they must have an activation code or a valid social security and date of birth in the system. Sometimes activation code emails fail to send, in this case, we must reset the client’s NetID password.

  1. The client can activate their NetID by going to Activate NetID.

  2. Then have the client enter their NetID where is says Enter Your NetID.

  3. Once they enter their NetID, they will be able to be see Activate Using Social Security Number and Date of BirthActivate Using Activation Code, and Alternative Activation Methods.

    1. If a client's activation code is on file and it appears a password has never been set (typically if the password has been reset at 5am or 7am it has never been activated), we may give them the activation code through a submission to the email address we have on file.

    2. Lastly, if on the phone with the customer, you may activate their account by resetting their password. You must follow the below "Resetting Passwords" procedure in doing so.

Setting Recovery Options

A forgotten password is a common occurrence when dealing with NetID passwords.  To allow for easy password resets, Password Recovery Options need to be set up.  We recommend setting at least 1 of the 2 options:

  1. Navigate to NetID site.

  2. Hover your cursor over NetID Tools at the top of the page, and then click the third option down, Set Password Recovery Options.

Secondary Email

  1. The client should enter a personal email address (not@uconn.edu because we require the NetID password to access both Exchange and Gmail) in the Secondary Email Address field, and click Save Changes.

  2. Log in to the email account provided and open the email from netid@uconn.edu. The email will provide a verification code, copy or write this down.

  3. Enter the Verification code into the field provided on the NetID website and click Submit, this will complete the process.
