HuskyCT Admins are happy to copy your course content for you, but if you would like to perform your own course copy, follow the instructions below.

If you would like to copy only some of your content to another course, please use these instructions instead.

Standard Course Copy

If you would like to perform the standard course copy that HuskyCT admins perform, follow the steps below. This standard course copy option is recommended for most users. If you do not know which instruction set to use, use this one.

  1. Enter the course that has the content that you wish to copy
  2. Click: Course Management → Packages and Utilities → Course Copy
  3. If you know the Course ID of the course you want to copy the content into, paste it in the field labeled, "Destination Course ID"

the course ID is different from the course name

    1. If you do not know the course ID, search for the course by doing the following:
      1. Click Browse next to the Course ID field
      2. Use the search function to find your course
      3. Choose the radio box next to your course
      4. Click Submit
  4. Click "Select All"

    1. If you do not want your old announcements copied over, uncheck the "Announcements" box

  5. If you do not want to copy discussion board starter posts, click the "Include only the forums, with no starter posts" radio button

Your discussion board will be copied regardless of the option that you pick here. The top option, "Include starter posts for each thread in each forum (anonymized)" is usually student replies unless you have specifically configured your discussion board differently. If unsure, choose the second option as described above.

  6. Click Copy links and copies of the content (include entire course home folder). If you do not choose this option, it's possible that not all of your content will be copied over.

Do not click "Include Enrollments in the Copy" or you will copy over all the students from your old course to your new course. Enrollments are managed automatically and this option should not be used!

  7. Finally, click Submit

Additional Course Copy Options

HuskyCT admins recommend the above standard course copy for almost all users. However, if you have a specific need for one of the advanced options, they are detailed below. The specific steps to perform the course copy are the same as the above. The advanced instruction set is for copying, or not copying, specific types of content during the process.

Purpose

For a non-standard course copy, you will still need to follow the basic steps outlined in the standard course copy section above. However, you have some options regarding not copying specific parts of your course into the new course.

For the most part, unchecking a box on the course copy page (pictured above), will simply result in that item not coming over. You need to be cautious using these check boxes, as some of them can have unintended side effects. When performing a normal course copy, HuskyCT admins only use the "Announcements", and "Discussion Board" check boxes, and leave all the others alone. For that reason, it is usually not necessary to change the check boxes for any reason. However, if you find that you do need to change one of these check boxes for any reason, these are the ones that you need to look out for:

Checkbox TitleEffect
Grade Center
Unchecking this box will not copy over your grade center. All graded assignments are tied to the grade center, so any graded item such as assignments, will not be copied over if this box is left unchecked.

Graded discussion boards will still be copied into the new course, however if the grade center box is unchecked, they will become ungraded discussion boards.
If you check this box, your tests, quizzes, and pools will be copied over. However, if you also uncheck the grade center box, they will be copied into your new course, but will NOT be deployed in the course.
