In order to connect an Internet of Things (IoT) device to the UConn network, you will be asked to register your device by providing the device's MAC address. Every network-connected device has an IP address and a unique MAC address that identifies it on the network. This article covers how to find the MAC address on devices commonly registered with ITS. 

 Gaming Consoles
 Playstation 3
  1. At the home menu, go left to select Settings, then choose Network Settings
  2. Select Settings and Connection Status List
  3. Scroll to the bottom area to find the MAC Address.
 Playstation 4
  1. Select Settings on the home screen
  2. Scroll down to System
  3. Select System Information
  4. The wired and wireless MAC Address are listed at the bottom of the screen.
 Xbox 360
  1. Go to the home screen.
  2. Choose System Settings to the far right in the home screen.
  3. Choose Network Settings
  4. Select Wireless Network
  5. Select Configure Network
  6. Select Additional Settings
  7. Select Advanced Settings
  8. The Wireless MAC address should be listed on the middle area.
 Xbox One
  1. Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide.
  2. Select System > Settings > General > Network settings.
  3. Choose Advanced Settings
  4. At the bottom of this screen you'll see a headings for wired MAC and wireless MAC addresses.
  5. For connecting to the UCONN-GUEST network, please give the wireless MAC address to the ITS Tech Support Center.
 Nintendo Switch
  1. Select System Settings from the home screen
  2. Select Internet
  3. Your System MAC Address should be displayed on this screen
  4. If the System MAC Address is not displayed on this screen, select Internet Settings
  5. Scroll to the bottom and note the System MAC Address
 Android Device
  1. Go to Settings on the Apps Menu Screen.
  2. Select About (device).

  3. Select Status.
  4. The device's MAC address is located under "WiFi MAC Address".
 Windows Phone
  1. Open the "Apps" list, and tap on Settings.
  2. Select About.
  3. Tap on more info.
  4. You will now be able to see the MAC address (as well as the IMEI and SIM ID) of your Windows phone.
 iOS Device
  1. In the home screen, open the "Settings" menu by finding and tapping the Gear icon.
  2. In the "Settings" menu, find and select the General tab.

  3. In the "General" tab, find and select the About tab.
  4. Find the "Wi-Fi Address" listing at the bottom.  This is the MAC address of the device.

 OSX Device

Finding the Wired MAC Address

  1. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen and type in Network Utility.

  2. Select Network Utility from the drop-down menu.

  3. To determine the Wired MAC address, select Ethernet from the network interface drop-down menu.
  4. The device’s MAC address will be listed under "Hardware Address".

Finding the Wireless MAC Address

  1. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen and type in Network Utility.

  2. Select Network Utility from the drop-down menu.

  3. To determine the Wireless MAC address, select AirPort (or Wi-Fi for OSX 10.7 and above) from the network interface drop-down menu.

  4. The device’s MAC address will be listed under "Hardware Address".

 Miscellaneous Smart Devices
 Google Home
  1. Plug in your Google Home.
  2. Download and open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  3. Select your Google Home from the list of nearby devices and press Set Up.
  4. Accept the prompt to allow your phone to connect to the Google Home.
  5. Enter the location of your Google Home and press Continue.
  6. The wireless MAC address will be listed at the bottom right corner of the screen
 Google Home Mini
  1. Plug in your Google Home Mini
  2. Download and open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet
  3. Select your Google Home from the list of nearby devices and press [Set up].
  4. When the set up asks what WiFi name to connect to, press the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner
  5. This will display the Mac Address
 Amazon Echo (Dot, Spot, Plus, Show)
  1. Download the Amazon Alexa app to your phone or computer and sign in with your Amazon account.
  2. Connect to the network transmitted by the Echo device.
  3. The wireless MAC address for the Echo will be listed at the bottom of the Echo setup screen in the Alexa app.
 Amazon Fire TV
  1. Plug the Amazon Fire TV stick into your TV.
  2. If this is the first time using this device, the wireless MAC address will be shown on the far-right side of the available networks list.
  3. If this device has been used in the past, navigate to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Network and the Wired and Wireless MAC address will be displayed.
 Apple TV
  1. Plug in your Apple TV and follow the set up until you reach the step to connect to a network.
  2. Select “ISUNet-StartHere” and attempt to connect. This will fail, which is normal.
  3. The wireless MAC address will display on the screen.
 Roku Stick

Using your Roku remote, access the “Secret Menu”

  1. Press [Home] 5 times
  2. Press [Fast Forward] 3 times
  3. Press [Rewind] 2 times
  4. Your MAC address will be displayed as Wireless MAC Address.
 Smart TV's
 Samsung

To locate your Samsung Smart TV MAC address you will have to navigate to the Network settings.

To navigate to the Network Settings follow these instructions

  1. Press Menu.
  2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight Network, Then press ENTER.
  3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight Network Settings, Then press ENTER.
  4. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight Wireless, then press ENTER
 Insignia

To locate your Insignia Smart TV MAC address you will have to navigate to the Network settings.

To navigate to the Network Settings follow these instructions

  1. Press ENTER. The settings menu opens. (or press Menu)
  2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight Network, Then press ENTER.
  3. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight Wireless, then press ENTER.
 Sharp

To locate your Sharp Smart TV MAC address you will have to navigate to the Network settings.

To navigate to the Network Settings follow these instructions

  1. Press the Menu on the remote.
  2. Press ◀ or ▶ to highlight Initial Setup, then press Enter.
  3. Press ▲ or ▼ to select Internet Setup, then press Enter.
  4. Press ▲ or ▼ to select Network Setup, then press Enter.
  5. Press ▲ or ▼ to select Connection Type, then press Enter.
  6. Press ◀ or ▶ to highlight Wireless, then press Enter.
  7. Press ▲ or ▼ to select IP Setup, then press 
  8. The MAC Address should be on the bottom of the page.
 Sony

To locate your Sony Smart TV MAC address you will have to navigate to the Network settings.

To navigate to the Network Settings follow these instructions

  1. Press the Home
  2. Use the arrow keys to scroll to Settings, then press Enter.
  3. Use the arrow keys to scroll to Network Setup, then press Enter.
  4. From the menu, select Wireless Setup, then press Enter.
  5. Click on Network Setup - Status and the MAC Address should be on the screen.
 Vizio

To locate your Vizio Smart TV MAC addresses you will have to navigate to the Network settings.

To navigate to the Network Settings follow these instructions

  1. Press Menu on the remote.
  2. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight the Network, then press OK.
  3. The Network Connection menu displays.
  4. Press ▲ or ▼ to highlight Manual Setup,Then press OK. The IP Settings menu is displayed.
  5. At the bottom of the menu the MAC addresses are displayed.
 LG

To locate your LG Smart TV MAC addresses you will have to navigate to the Network settings.

To navigate to the Network Settings follow these instructions

TVs before 2012:

  1. Press the Home
  2. Press on Settings, then press Network.
  3. Press Network Settings
  4. The MAC address will be listed after it runs a network test.

2012 and after:

  1. Press Settings on the remote.
  2. Choose "Support" (The ? icon) and then "Product/ Service Info." 
  3. It will be listed in the Product/ Service info box.
