Student, staff, and faculty can change their user password in macOS / OS X.
If your computer is bound to Active Directory, you will need to navigate to the NetID Management website to change your password. However, doing so will NOT change the password on your Mac.
If your computer is managed by ITS using JAMF, you will need to navigate to the NetID Management website to change your password. However, doing so will NOT change the password on your Mac.
Changing a Local User Password in macOS / OS X
To change a local user password,
- Click the Apple logo on the upper left corner.
- Click System Preferences.
- Click Users & Groups in the System Preferences.
- Select the user account for which you wish to add or change the password.
- Click on the lock to make changes.
- Click Change Password.
- Click Change Password once all of the relevant fields are completed.
- If you are changing an existing password, enter the old password followed by the new password twice.
- If you are creating a password for the first time, leave the old password field blank followed by the new password twice.
Click Change Password once all of the relevant fields are completed.
