Student, staff, and faculty can change their user password in macOS / OS X.
Please note: If your computer is bound to Active Directory you will need to open a web browser and go to netid.uconn.edu in order to change your password, however, this will NOT change the password on your Mac.
Changing a Local User Password in macOS / OS X
- Click the Apple logo on the upper left corner. Then click System Preferences.
- Click Users & Groups in the System Preferences.
- Select the user account you want to add or change the password for. Click on the lock to make changes, then click Change Password.
- Click Change Password once all of the relevant fields are completed.

- If you are changing an existing password, enter the old password followed by the new password twice.
- If you are creating a password for the first time, leave the old password field blank followed by the new password twice.
Click Change Password once all of the relevant fields are completed.
