 Sharing A Kaltura Video outside HuskyCT

Instructors at UConn will be able to share Kaltura videos outside of HuskyCT. You first need to publish your page, and then you can get a link to the video that you can share.

Publish Video

  1. Go to Mediaspace.
  2. Click on the Guest drop down (upper right) and click My Media. You will then be prompted to login with your NetID and NetID password.

  3. Click on the check boxes of video you wish to share. Click Actions in the upper right of the screen and from the drop down menu, select Publish.

  4. Select Unlisted from the publish page to allow anyone viewership for the video. This will allow anyone you share the link with to view the content.

  5. Click Save to update the setting.  Then you can click Back.

  6. To get the link to share with others, go to your media page. Click on the video you’d like to get the link for, and click Share to view the link. You can now copy this link and share it with others.

 Sharing Video in Discussion Boards and other Areas
  1. In the discussion board when a student creates a thread they are prompted to enter text or optionally they can click on Mashups > Kaltura Media. This option is found in other areas in HuskyCT (i.e. when students submit video homework assignments).

2. Click on the video you want to share and click Actions > Publish.

3. Turn on Unlisted and click Save.

  1. Then from the Share button you can retrieve the link to the video or embed url.

 Attach Kaltura Media to your HuskyCT assignment

Once you have recorded or uploaded media into Kaltura, you can embed it in assignments using HuskyCT’s text editor.

  1. Open the assignment and select “Write Submission” then “Kaltura Media” from the Mashups drop-down.

2. Once the My Media window opens, select an existing video from your My Media tab.

3. After pressing select, the video will now appear back in the text box where you can submit your content.

 Downloading Media from Kaltura

This article is intended to help UConn students and faculty download media from Kaltura. 

If you are not the owner of the Media:

  1. Go to kaltura.uconn.edu or click on the link the to video shared with you and skip to Step 5
  2. At the top right, click Guest → Login and log in using your NetID credentials.
  3. The Guest label should now be changed to your name.
  4. Click on the thumbnail of the media you would like to download.
  5. Below the player, click on the tab that says Download.
  6. Click the blue Download text next to one of the available formats based on your preference, and the content should start downloading to your computer.
    1. If you do not see a download tab, please contact the owner of the video and ask them to follow the guide below.

If the recording includes the webcam and the content/desktop, the download will only include the content and the audio.  The webcam recording will not be downloaded.

If you are the owner of the Media:

  1. Go to kaltura.uconn.edu
  2. At the top right, click Guest → Login and log in using your NetID credentials.
  3. The Guest label should now be changed to your name. Click on your name and click My Media.
  4. Find the media you wish to download, and click on the pencil icon at the right of the screen to Edit the media.
  5. Below the player, click on the tab that says Download.
  6. There is one option entitled Available Formats, click the check box named Source File so that the box is checked.
  7. Click Save
  8. Click Return to Media, which is right next to Save, to leave the edit screen and return to the viewing screen.
  9. You will now see a download tab that will allow you to download the media.

 Convert your video file to an audio only file - Windows
  1. After downloading your video file to your computer, open VLC Media Player

  2.  Click on Media -> Convert/Save [CTRL + R].

  3.  Click on Add.

  4. Browse and open your video file.
  5. Click on Convert/Save.
  6.  Under Settings, in Profile choose Audio – MP3.

  7. Hit Browse and give a destination file name.
  8. Click Start.

  1. After downloading your video file to your computer, open the file in QuickTime Player
  2. Go to File → Export As → Audio Only
