A computer name is required for most desktop support at UConn. It is used by our directory to index machines, remote into machines, and to keep track of inventory.

Mac:

Format

Serial Numbers are 11-13 characters.

From the operating system:

Click on the apple logo on the top left, and select "About This Mac". The serial number is the last field.

Physically:

On the back of the machine, locate the label containing the serial tag. For iMac all-in-one desktops, this is underneath the stand.

PC:

Format

Serial Numbers are 7 characters, ending with a 1 or 2.

From the operating system:

Open the start menu, and right click on "This PC" and go to properties. If there is no option for "This PC", search for it with the Windows 10 searchbar.

Shortcut

Press the Ctrl+Win+Pause keys to quickly open system information.

The computer name is towards the bottom.
