Definition/Usage
The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System has defined categories used to describe groups to which individuals belong, identify with, or belong to in the eyes of the community. The categories are used for federal reporting to categorize U.S. citizens, U.S. residents, and other eligible non-citizens.

IPEDS (Integrated Post-secondary Education Data System) data collection program. Federal reporting guidelines collect ethnicity and race information. However, the National Center for Education Statistics limits its reporting to a single ethnicity/race value.
Hispanic/Latinx is established first. Students who identify as Hispanic/Latinx are counted in this group.
Students who do not identify as Hispanic/Latinx are counted into self-selected race categories. In cases where multiple race categories are selected, these students are counted as “Two or More Races.”
Students may report multiple ethnicities. These are recorded in the ETHNICITY_DTL table.
