The Data Lookup (Single Item) Gadget can be used to pre-populate a form with the contact information for the person filling out the form, who is logged in with their NetID and password. Drag the gadget onto the canvas and configure (see below):

  1. Provide a Label

  2. Click on Choose for Data Source

  3. On the configuration screen select External Data | LDAP NetID Lookup and click Continue

4. From the configuration section for the Gadget, select Created By - (meta.createdBy)

You will then need to click on the gear icon and select Username

If you are successful, you will see your NetId in the gadget on the form.

To add more details to the form, such as Legal Name and Preferred Name (Display Name), turn on the Add linked auto-filled gadgets.

Tip

Best Practice: If information being retrieved from an integration is an important element of your business process, consider making it required (set the 'Required' Data Source configuration toggle to the on position).

Why is this important? Occasionally, integrations are out of service, and the requested data cannot be retrieved by the Kuali Build system (e.g., LDAP, KFS or other applications are offline or experiencing system related issues). By making the integration required you ensure the form can only be submitted when the data is present, preserving the integrity of your business process.
