Students, faculty, and staff can access transcripts for Webex recordings.
Overview
All Webex recordings
that are saved to the cloud willhave an automatic transcript generated for them.
A Webex recording will only begin to process once the Meeting has concluded. Once the recording has finished processing and is viewable,
thenthe transcript generation process
beginswill begin. You should expect the transcript generation period to be as long as twice the duration of the video. This means that if you have
a 20 minutean hour-long recording, you should expect
tothe transcript to finish generating
40 minutes2 hours after the recording is viewable online.

Viewing and Hiding the Transcript

Once the transcript is viewable, it will appear attached to your recording. If you would like to hide the transcript, keep reading this sectionfollow the procedure below.

Click on the
Pencilpencil icon that sits after the recording's name.
Uncheck the checkbox for Transcript.
Click Save.
Editing the Transcript
Users may edit the transcript on the same screen that from which they view it from. When viewing your transcript, simply hover
View your recording at webex.uconn.edu
Hover your cursor over the text block that you would like to edit. Click on the pencil icon that sits at the end of the text.

Downloading the Transcript
The transcript may be downloaded along with the Recording as a separate file. The transcript will download in the as a VTT (.vtt file type) file. If you want wish to upload this transcript into another program that supports .vtt VTT files, you are all set to do so. If your program does not support .vtt VTT files, you can easily convert the transcript to a TXT (.txt or ) or DOC (.doc) file using Notepad and Microsoft Word, respectively. Note:

If you would like to upload the transcript into Kaltura, you must remove the time stamps from each line. Kaltura has an auto-alignment feature that negates the need for the timestamps. Consequently, the time stamps will prevent the auto-alignment form working correctly. |

Converting Your Transcript to a TXT File for Notepad
Open Notepad.
Open the Windows Start Menu.
Type Notepad into the search box that appears.
Select Notepad from the search results.
Click on File.
Click on Open.
Select All Files.
Browse through your files find your downloaded transcript.
Once the file is open, you
maycan remove the timestamps manually
. If you have many lines of text and find that manually removing the timestamps (for Kaltura) would not be possible, please reach out to avt@uconn.edu with "transcript edit" in the subject. This IT department has a computer script that autonomously removes all the timestamps from the file within a minute, if desired.
When the file is ready to be converted, click on File
→.
Select Save As.
At the end of the filename, type .txt (including the period)
and make sure.
Verify that the Save as type: is Text Document.
The new text file is ready to be uploaded/used with other programs,
