The purpose of this document is to outline the process for uploading data (specifically Excel and Text files) in WebFOCUS version 8.2.0607. In addition to interface changes in this version, the data within these files is now loaded into a binary master file format (.ftm) rather than remaining in mas) and a copy of the original file (excel (.xlsx) or text (.txt,.csv) formats) will also be created in the application folder.
Upload Data
Navigate to the
ContentWorkspaces Folder within which you plan to use your data.
Right-click
on theon the folder
and, select Upload, and then click Data. You will be able to choose the location where the data will be stored in a later step.
From the Upload screen, either double-click on your selection for the type up file you are uploading or right-click and select Upload Data.
Note In WebFOCUS 8.206, if you have a .txt file, use the Delimited files selection.
- Browse through your local PC File Explorer to locate the the file to upload, select the File name and click Open.
- Change Adapter to DATREC- fast binary from the drop-down list.
- Make sure the Synonym Application and Data File Location are the same. The default is myhome (similar concept to My Content) but for a published report, you will need to
change these values to the appropriate folder. - After entering the recommended options above, select the Proceed to Load button.

will need to change these values to the appropriate folder. - Confirm the File Delimiter, Header row, and Field Enclosure settings are appropriate for the text file you
are uploading. After entering the recommended options above, select the Proceed to Load button. From the pending changes Warning dialog box, click No, as your upload is already complete and we do not want to create a report at this time.
- The system will display a list of the files in the application folder. Close your browser and return to the WebFOCUS home page. Your data is now ready to be used in a report.
tip Under LOCAL FILES, select the type of file you wish to upload. In the next window, select the folder and file you wish to upload. You have a choice of selecting local files on your PC or files on a server.
There are three steps required before you click on the Load button to load the data.
In this example, an Excel spreadsheet is getting uploaded.
Click on the hamburger icon to the right of Adapter and select the desired adapter. Click on Excel and click on Select on the bottom right of the screen.
Click Application Folder and select the desired folder. Click on the folder you wish to upload to and click Select on the bottom right of the screen.
If you wish to rename the file you are about to upload, click on the name and edit it.
Check the values for Skipped rows and Header rows to be sure they reflect the data in the file to be uploaded.
Click Load.
Note: If you are loading to master that already exists, you will get a warning.Click OK and close the tab. The upload is complete.
From the Load Options dialog box, follow the instructions below, based on the file format you are working with.

From the Query Development page, exit the process by clicking the X from the upper right corner of the window.
