Shibboleth was a Single Sign-On solution for web services, which utilizes the utilized the universal and federated SAML 2.0 protocol. Shibboleth is was able to leverage the InCommon federation, an education and research identity federation, through Internet 2. ITS' federation with InCommon allows allowed Shibboleth to automatically or quickly integrate with other research and educational institutions across the U.S.
The University’s Shibboleth implementation delegates implementation delegated authentication to CAS, providing a constant consistent login experience for the end user. In addition to providing authentication services, Shibboleth is was able to assert identity attributes to the web service about the user who has had authenticated. These Those attributes can include included email, name, and other system identifiers such as Student Admin ID.ITS-provided Shibboleth service consists of two servers in a highly available infrastructure.
