This article covers how instructors can preview their HuskyCT “Original Course View” course in Ultra manually convert a blank or upcoming HuskyCT “Original” course to “Ultra” Course View.
Previewing your course in Ultra Course View
To preview the layout and functionality of a course in Ultra Course View, instructors must complete the steps outline below, making use of the HuskyCT Development platform (LMSDev). https://lmsdev.uconn.edu/
Step 1: Retrieve Course Information
Navigate to LMSDev https://lmsdev.uconn.edu/ and log in with your NetID and password.
From the Courses tab, click on the course you would like to convert.
While in the course, copy the URL which contains the course information.
Step 2: Email Instructor and Course Information
Email the ITS HuskyCT team (huskyct@uconn.edu) and include the following information:
The URL copied in Step 1
Your Last name, First name
NetID (e.g., zlj10293)
Any other information or comments etc.
Step 3: Preview your Ultra Course
Once you have received email confirmation of the Ultra Conversion, navigate back to https://lmsdev.uconn.edu/ and log in with your NetID and password.
From the Courses tab, click on the converted course.
**Please note that Kaltura media and other 3rd party platforms will not be functional the Ultra preview course while in LMSdev. Embedded Kaltura media will state “This is not the Production Environment.”

You are now able to utilize the Blackboard Ultra course experience in your UConn courses. You may convert qualified original course view courses by using the following steps. Qualified courses must be set up by HuskyCT admins before they are able to be converted. Courses that have not been setup by HuskyCT admins are not able to follow the steps below.

It is not possible to rollback a HuskyCT course to the Original Course View once it has been converted to the Ultra Course View. If you need to go back to the Original Course View, your course will need to be deleted and you will lose any changes that you made to the course. |
Converting your Course

Converting a course to Ultra Deletes all submission data. Therefore, do not convert your course after students have submitted assignments or during the semester. |
You should request your content be restored from prior semesters before proceeding with these steps. You can request the content be restored using this form, HuskyCT Course Restore Form
Login to HuskyCT and enter the course you want to convert
In the upper right hand corner, look for a padlock icon
If the padlock is red and appears closed, you can proceed to step 3
If the padlock is gray and appears open, click on the padlock to make the course private. It will then turn red and you can proceed to Step 3
Click Try the Ultra Course View or the pencil icon.
The conversion will take some time to complete. You will receive an email when the conversion process is complete.
Enter your course. You will receive a report of all the things that were not able to be converted.
You are looking at the course in preview mode. At this point, it is still possible to return to the original. To return to the original course view, click Back to Original Course button on the page footer.
Take a look around the course and see if you like it.
If you do like it, click Use the Ultra Course and follow the prompts to finish the conversion and make it permanent.
If you do NOT like it, click Back to Original course which will roll back any changes made to the course. This step can only be performed in the preview mode.
If you choose to return to Original Course View, you will need to make the course Available again. To make the course Available, click the Red Padlock in the upper Right hand corner. Alternatively, navigate to Course Management >> Customization >> Properties and under Set Availability, select Yes. Once the course is available the visibility is controlled by the Course Duration dates found under, Course Management >> Customization >> Properties and under Set Course Duration. If you want to change this date, refer to Changing Course Availability

Because the conversion process can irrevocably delete student work and affect certain course content, (i.e., embedded Kaltura media, certain publisher tools), it is strongly recommended that instructors only follow this conversion process if:

Step 1: Convert to Ultra
Instructors should follow this conversion process from an upcoming term course or a non-course site (not from a previous term’s course).
Log in to HuskyCT
From the Courses tab, click into the course.
Before starting the conversion process, the course must be set to private. To make the course private, click the lock icon in the upper-righthand corner. A red, locked icon will indicate the private status.
Once the course is private, click the orange pencil icon.
Then click Try the Ultra Course View.
While your course is converted, you will be returned to the Courses tab.
You will receive a notification email when the course has been converted.
Refresh your browser and from the Courses tab, your Ultra course will now have a colored strip next to it.
Step 2: Ultra Conversion Preview

Initially, you will be looking at the converted course in Ultra preview mode. You will need to approve the conversion to make it final. While it is possible to revert to Original from the preview version, some course materials (i.e., Kaltura embeds) maybe affected. Any changes made while in the Ultra preview will be lost upon final conversion. |
Enter your course. You will receive a report of all the things that were not perfectly converted.
To return to the Original course view, click Back to Original Course button on the page footer. This will roll back any changes made to the course. This step can only be performed in the preview mode.
Course availability: If you choose to return to Original, you will need to make the course Available again by clicking the red lock icon in the upper right hand corner.
Please note that course Availability is also determined by Course Duration dates.
Navigate to Course Management >> Customization >> Properties under Set Course Duration. If you want to change this date, refer toChanging Course AvailabilityChanging Course Availability.
When you are ready to finalize the conversion, click Use the Ultra Course.
To access the conversion report after the course is converted to Ultra, click the Conversion Exceptions link under the left side Details and Action menu.

It is not possible to rollback a HuskyCT course to the Original Course View once it has been converted to the Ultra Course View.
