BARC Virtual Machines that do not need to be accessed over the Internet are typically assigned a private IP address. A private address provides an additional layer of security and reduces the number of public IP addresses in use (which are limited). A private IP address requires the use of a proxy for Internet access.
An IP address in the range of 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 is a private address and will require a proxy for Internet access.

- Click the Tools button or gear icon
Click Internet Options
Select the Connections tab
Click the LAN settings button
Check the Use a proxy server for your LAN checkbox
Enter the following proxy server on the Start menu and Type in "Proxy" - Select "Proxy Settings"
- Scroll down to "Manual proxy Setup"
- Select the "Use a proxy server" switch to ensure it's "On"
- Enter in the address field: user-proxy.business.uconn.eduEnter your NetID and password if prompted
- Click OK on the dialog boxes

- and Port: 3128
- Check the "Don't use a proxy server for local (intranet addresses)"
- Click "Save" and close out.
