This article is intended for users looking to set, edit or view their pronouns in HuskyCT.

Adding or Editing Pronouns

  1. Navigate to HuskyCT

  2. On the left hand navigation bar, click your name

  3. Under Basis Information, look for Pronouns

  4. Click Add Pronouns, or if you need to edit your pronouns, click the pencil icon

  5. A new window will appear on the right hand side of the screen

  6. Under Pronouns, click the drop-down arrow

  7. Select your desired pronouns

  8. Click Done

Viewing Pronouns

Users can’t see pronouns for other users from within Original Course View, but can from within Ultra Course View.

Within Ultra Course View, a user’s pronouns appear:

  • In group assignments, group members can see the collaborators pronouns

  • In Peer Review, users allowed to view the name of the student who made the attempt can view their pronouns under their name

  • Under the course roster, while enrolling users, editing a user, or grating or editing a user’s accommodations

  • In Discussions, under the Student’s name in posts and replies

  • In course Messages

Step by Step: Editing your Profile

  1. Navigate to HuskyCT.

  2. Sign in with your NetID and NetID password if prompted.

  3. Click on your name in the left-hand menu.

  4. Hover your cursor over your name, pronunciation, email, or pronouns and then click on the pencil icon. All these edit buttons open the same menu.

  5. Within this Contact Information popup,

    1. You may add a phonetic spelling of your name in the Pronunciation text field.

    2. You may click on Record name pronunciation and use your microphone to record your own voice speaking your name.

    3. Notes:

      1. If you wish, you may continue further down this popup to continue filling in information but remember that you are not required to fill in any of these fields.

      2. The Additional Name field should not be used as it does not appear in your Name Card. If you would like to change your name, please follow this guide to edit your NetID: Changing Your Chosen Name

      3. You can set your Pronouns here.

  6. Click Done to save your changes.

Remember that this profile customization is completely optional, and your changes will be visible to all others in the course. If you wish for certain information to be kept private, do not add it to your profile.

Where will people see this information, and how will it appear?

Your name card will appear almost everywhere you see your avatar. When clicking on someone’s avatar (their icon), a little floating box will appear that contains their information. Click on the little X to close this popup.

You will be able to see this floating name card in assessments, the roster and gradebook, Communication Tools, and groups.

If your preferred or chosen name is not appearing in HuskyCT, you will need to change a setting on your NetID management page. See the Changing Your Chosen Name in UConn Directories help article.
