These instructions only apply to courses using the Original Course View. If you are using Ultra in your destination course, use the Ultra course copy instructions instead.

HuskyCT Admins will happily copy your course content for you, but if you would like to do it yourself, follow the instructions below. If you would only like to copy some of your content to another course, use these instructions instead.

This standard course copy option is recommended for most users. If you do not know which instruction set to use, use this one.

  1. Enter the course that has the content that you wish to copy.

  2. Click Course Management → Packages and Utilities → Course Copy.

  3. If you know the Course ID (not the course name) of the course you want to copy the content into, paste it into the field labeled Destination Course ID.

    1. If you do not know the Course ID, search for the course.

      1. Click Browse next to the Course ID field.

      2. Use the search function to find your course.

      3. Choose the radio box next to your course.

      4. Click Submit.

  4. Click Select All. If you do not want your old announcements copied over, uncheck the Announcements box. If you do not want to copy discussion board starter posts, click the Include only the forums, with no starter posts radio button.
(warning) Note: Discussion forums will be copied regardless of the option that you pick here. The top option, "Include starter posts for each thread in each forum (anonymized)," generally consists of student replies unless you have specifically configured your discussion board differently. If unsure, choose the second option as described above.

  5. Click Copy links and copies of the content (include entire course home folder). If you do not choose this option, files that are linked in a document may not be copied over.

    1. If you are only copying course tools, such as Discussion Board or Announcements, use the second option: Copy links and copies of the content.

Purpose

For a non-standard course copy, you need to follow the basic steps outlined in the standard course copy section above. However, you have some options regarding not copying specific parts of your course into the new course.

For the most part, unchecking a box on the course copy page (pictured above), will simply result in that item not copying over. You need to be cautious using these check boxes, as some may lead to unintended side effects. When performing a normal course copy, HuskyCT admins only use the Announcements and Discussion Board check boxes and leave all the others alone. It is usually not necessary to change the check boxes, but you may need to use the checkboxes for Grade Center and Test, Quizzes, and Pools.

Checkbox

Effect

Grade Center

Unchecking this box will not copy over your Grade Center. All graded items are tied to the Grade Center; assignments will only be copied over if this box is checked.

If the Grade Center box is unchecked, other graded items like graded discussions and blogs will still be copied into the new course, but they will become ungraded.

Tests, Quizzes, and Pools

If you check this box, your tests, quizzes, and pools will be copied over. If you also uncheck the Grade Center box, they will be copied into your new course but will not be deployed in the course.
