BARC Virtual Machines that do not need to be accessed over the Internet are typically assigned a private IP address. A private address provides an additional layer of security and reduces the number of public IP addresses in use (which are limited). A private IP address requires the use of a proxy for Internet access.
An IP address in the range of 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 is a private address and will require a proxy for Internet access.
Configuring the UConn Proxy in Microsoft Windows
Open Internet Explorer
Info You must use the Internet Explorer browser
- Click the Tools button or gear icon
- Click Internet Options
- Select the Connections tab
- Click the LAN settings button
- Check the Use a proxy server for your LAN checkbox
- Enter the following proxy server in the address field: proxy5.uitsbarc1-uproxy-01.uconn.eduEnter your NetID and password if prompted
