If you would like to upload the transcript into Kaltura, you must remove the time stamps from each line. Kaltura has an auto-alignment feature that negates the need for the timestamps. Consequently, the time stamps will prevent the auto-alignment form working correctly. Continue below to learn how to edit the downloaded transcript. |

The Audio-Visual Technology Support (AVT) team has a computer keyboard that is reprogrammed to autonomously remove all timestamps from a transcript file. If you have many lines of text and find that manually removing the timestamps would not be feasible, contact AVT at techsupport@uconn.edu. In your email, you should write transcript edit in the subject line.Please note that you will need to send the transcript file to the team for processinga transcript that needs to be cleaned up, i.e. removing time codes and excessive spacing, try using the Microsoft Stream transcript VTT file cleaner. |
Converting Your Transcript to a TXT File for Notepad
Open Notepad.
Open the Windows Start Menu.
Type Notepad into the search box that appears.
Select Notepad from the search results.
Click on File.
Click on Open.
Select All Files.
Browse through your files find your downloaded transcript.
Once the file is open, you can remove the timestamps manually, if desired.
When the file is ready to be converted, click on File.
Select Save As.
At the end of the filename, type .txt (including the period).
Verify that the Save as type: is Text Document.
The new text file is ready to be uploaded/used with other programs, like Kaltura.

Open Microsoft Word.
Click on Open.
Select Browse.
Navigate to your downloaded transcript.
Open your downloaded transcript. It will be listed as a VTT file.
Once the file is open, you can remove the timestamps manually, if desired.
When the file is ready to be converted, click on File.
Select Save As.
Change the Save as type to Word Document.
Click Save.
