In order to connect an Internet of Things (IoT) device to the UConn network, you must register your device by providing the device's MAC address. Every network-connected device has an IP address and a unique MAC address that identifies it on the network. This article covers how to find the MAC address on devices commonly registered with ITS.

Finding the Wired MAC Address

  1. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen and type in Network Utility.

  2. Select Network Utility from the drop-down menu.

  3. To determine the Wired MAC Address, select Ethernet from the network interface drop-down menu.
  4. The device’s MAC Address will be listed under Hardware Address.

Finding the Wireless MAC Address

  1. Click on the Spotlight icon in the top right-hand corner of the screen and type in Network Utility.

  2. Select Network Utility from the drop-down menu.

  3. To determine the Wireless MAC Address, select AirPort (or Wi-Fi for OSX 10.7 and above) from the network interface drop-down menu.

  4. The device’s MAC Address will be listed under Hardware Address.

  1. Plug in your Google Home.
  2. Download and open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
  3. Select your Google Home from the list of nearby devices, and press Set Up.
  4. Accept the prompt to allow your phone to connect to Google Home.
  5. Enter the location of your Google Home, and press Continue.
  6. The wireless MAC Address will be listed at the bottom right corner of the screen.
