  • All Webex recordings will have an automatic transcript generated for them.

  • A Webex recording will only begin to process once the Meeting has concluded. Once the recording has finished processing and is viewable, the transcript generation process will begin. You should expect the transcript generation period be as long as twice the duration of the video. This means that if you have an hour-long recording, you should expect the transcript to finish generating 2 hours after the recording is viewable online.

Viewing and Hiding the Transcript

Note

Webex users are currently unable to hide the transcript once it has appeared alongside the recording. Webex is aware of this issue.

Once the transcript is viewable, it will appear attached to your recording. If you would like to hide the transcript, follow the procedure below.

  1. View your recording at webex.uconn.edu

  2. Hover your cursor over the text block that you would like to edit. Click on the pencil icon that sits at the end of the text.

  3. Type in your edits.

  4. Click Save.

  1. Open Notepad. To do so,

    1. Open the Windows Start Menu. 

    2. Type Notepad into the search box that appears.

    3. Select Notepad from the search results. 

  2.  Click on File

  3. Click on Open

  4. Select All Files. 

  5. Browse through your files find your downloaded transcript.

  6. Once the file is open, you can remove the timestamps manually, if desired.

    Note: The Audio Visual Technology Support (AVT) team has a computer script that autonomously removes all timestamps from the file. If you have many lines of text and find that manually removing Kaltura the timestamps would not be feasible, contact AVT at techsupport@uconn.edu. In your email, you should write transcript edit in the subject line.

  7. When the file is ready to be converted, click on File.

  8. Select Save As

  9. At the end of the filename, type .txt (including the period).

  10. Verify that the Save as type: is Text Document.

The new text file is ready to be uploaded/used with other programs, like Kaltura.

  1. Open Microsoft Word.

  2. Click on Open.

  3. Select Browse.

  4. Navigate to your downloaded transcript.

  5. Open your downloaded transcript. It will be listed as a VTT file.

  6. Once the file is open, you can remove the timestamps manually, if desired.
