  1. Enter the course that has the content that you wish to copy.
  2. Click Course Management → Packages and Utilities → Course Copy.
  3. If you know the Course ID (not the course name) of the course you want to copy the content into, paste it into the field labeled Destination Course ID.

    1. If you do not know the Course ID, search for the course.
      1. Click Browse next to the Course ID field.
      2. Use the search function to find your course.
      3. Choose the radio box next to your course.
      4. Click Submit.
  4. Click Select All. If you do not want your old announcements copied over, uncheck the Announcements box. If you do not want to copy discussion board starter posts, click the Include only the forums, with no starter posts radio button.

    Note

    Discussion forums will be copied regardless of the option that you pick here. The top option, "Include starter posts for each thread in each forum (anonymized)," generally consists of student replies unless you have specifically configured your discussion board differently. If unsure, choose the second option as described above.


  5. Click Copy links and copies of the content (include entire course home folder). If you do not choose this option, files that are linked from inside in a document might may not be copoied copied over.

    1. If you are only copying course tools, such as Discussion Board or Announcements, use the second option, : Copy links and copies of the content.

  6. Click Submit.
Warning

Do not click "Include Enrollments in the Copy" , or you will copy over all the students from your old course to your new course. Enrollments of courses that are imported from PeopleSoft are managed automatically through the integration with PeopleSoft. Consequently, this option should not be used!


Once you have completed complete the course copy, it is important to compare the destination course with the source course to ensure that all the content was copied properly. It is significantly much more difficult to redo a course copy once students have started submitting data.

Additional Course Copy Options

HuskyCT admins recommend the above standard course copy for almost all users. However, if you have a specific need for one of the advanced options, they are detailed below. The specific steps to perform the course copy are the same as the above. The advanced instruction set is for copying , or not copying , specific types of content during the process.

Purpose

For a non-standard course copy, you will still need to follow the basic steps outlined in the standard course copy section above. However, you have some options regarding not copying specific parts of your course into the new course.

For the most part, unchecking a box on the course copy page (pictured above), will simply result in that item not coming copying over. You need to be cautious using these check boxes, as some of them can have may lead to unintended side effects. When performing a normal course copy, HuskyCT admins only use the "Announcements ", and "Discussion Board" check boxes , and leave all the others alone. For that reason, it It is usually not necessary to change the check boxes for any reason. However, if you find that you do need to change one of these check boxes for any reason, these are the ones that you need to look out for:

Unchecking this box will not copy over your grade centerGrade Center. All graded items are tied to the grade center. Assignments, will not Grade Center; assignments will only be copied over if this box is left uncheckedchecked.

If the grade center Grade Center box is unchecked, other graded items like graded discussions and blogs will still be copied into the new course, but they will become ungraded.
If you check this box, your tests, quizzes, and pools will be copied over. However, if If you also uncheck the grade center Grade Center box, they will be copied into your new course , but will NOT not be deployed in the course.
