UConn provided computers are typically pre-configured to connect to the appropriate on-campus printer in the user's department. However, there may be times when you need to help the user connect to the printer manually. The steps below will outline the process for finding the appropriate printer on the network and connecting the machine to it.

Find the printer on the network and install it:

Note

If you are working remotely, make sure you are connected to the campus with Microsoft Direct Access or the UConn VPN before proceeding.

  1. Open the Run command in Windows. (Start Menu > type "Run")
  2. Type in the network location for our on-campus print server. There are currently two print servers on campus:

    Old Print Server\\uits-print02
    New Print Server\\print.svr.uconn.edu

  3. Windows will now display all of the printers that are on that server. Find the printer that most appropriately matches the one you are trying to connect to. (They are usually labelled by department and may have a room number as well).
  4. Double-click the printer to install it.

Alternatively:

In Windows 10:

  1. Find the Printer on the print server using the Run command as shown above.
  2. Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Devices > Printers & scanners.

  3. Select Add a printer or scanner. If the printer isn't listed, select, The printer that I want isn't listed.

  4. Select the radio button "Select a shared printer by name" option and type in the \\print server name\printer name and click Next.  E.g.   \\print.svr.uconn.edu\DDS-FoodCourt

  5. The printer should then install with the correct driver.
