This process uses telephone lines instead of the Cisco Webex Meetings smartphone app. Therefore this process can be handled by a landline or a cell phone. Some steps below involve using your computer; your computer does not need a webcam or microphone for any of these steps.


Tip

The terms "Webex Meeting" and "Phone Conference" refer to the same concept. The use of one of these names depends on personal choice reflecting how the majority of users are joining.

Therefore, phone conferences are scheduled in the same manor as Meetings. Any participant can join either through computer (internet) or phone (phone line), and they may switch back and forth during the Meeting.

Beginning the Phone Conference in Your Personal Room

To begin the phone conference in your Personal Room,

Click the blue Sign In button in the top-right corner of the window, as shown below.

  1. Click on the green Start a Meeting button to begin your Personal Room meeting from your PC and open it to callers,
  2. If you would like to use a phone, click on the audio options. By default, the phone is set to the Use computer audio option before you change it.

    1. Click on that button to select the Call in option.
    2. If you would like to use your computer's microphone and speakers, select the Use computer audio option.

  1. Follow the instructions to enter your Access Code/Meeting Number
  2. Follow the instructions to enter your Host PIN.
  3. The meeting will begin locked. Dial *5 to unlock your Personal Room to allow others to join.
  4. Dial *5 again to Lock the Room.

To have others join your meeting, share the Access Code/Meeting Number found in the More ways to join pop-up menu (explained above).

Note

You and your attendees will always call the same number; it is the Meeting Number/Access Code that will direct you to the correct meeting.

Setting Up a Scheduled Phone Conference

To set up a scheduled phone conference,

Schedule the conference as you would any other Meeting.

Joining a Meeting through a Phone Line

If you are the Host, you should review the Setting Up and Beginning the Phone Conference in Your Personal Room section above.

If you are not the Host, follow the directions below to join the meeting through a phone line.

  1. Open the email or other location where you received the Join Link.
  2. Click on the join link.
  3. Cancel the download if it appears. 
  4. Click on the information icon at the top of the screen following the Meeting name to open the Meeting Information. In that pop-up, you will see the Access Code/Meeting Number.

If you do not know the Access Code/Meeting Number and do not have an invitation, Ask the Host to share the Access Code/Meeting Number with you.

  1. Take note of your Attendee ID.
  2. Enter your Attendee ID when calling in. Doing so will allow Webex to associate your phone number with your UConn Webex account for this meeting. Entering your Attendee ID will cause your name to appear in the Participants List with a phone icon next it, rather than just your phone number appearing in the list.
