Advisors can assign a service indicator in the Student Administration System.

A negative service indicator, or advising hold, can be assigned to a student which will restrict enrollment until the hold is removed. The negative service indicator button will display on all pages in the system for that individual.

To assign a service indicator, 

  1. Log in to the Student Administration System. 
  2. Navigate to Self Service. 
    • Click on Faculty Center. The Faculty Center will automatically display your Teaching Schedule for the current semester.

  3. Click the Advisor Center tab at the top of the page. The My Advisees page will display.

  12. Click the Add Service Indicator link.

  13. Enter the Service Indicator Code ENR in the Service Indicator Code field. Alternatively, you can click the search button to select the code. This indicates that enrollment is restricted.

  14. Enter the Service Indicator Reason CD of ADVIS in the Service Ind Reason Code field. Alternatively, you can click the search button to select the code. This indicates that advising is required. If a hold already exists for the selected student, the negative service indicator icon will display at the top of the record. If a hold exists, you must:
    1. Click the add button.
    2. Continue with the steps below.

  15. Enter the term in which the enrollment restriction will be in effect in the Start Term field. If you do not know the term code,
    1. Click the search button. 
    2. Click Lookup
    3. Select the desired term from the list.

      The Active date is the date the hold becomes active. You may change it if necessary.


  16. Enter an appropriate contact ID for your department, if desired. The Contact Person field will populate based on the Contact ID selected. To locate a contact ID,
    1. Click the search button.
    2. Narrow the search by Campus ID and/or name. 
    3. Click Lookup to select the contact from the resulting list.
  17. The ID and name of the person placing the hold will automatically appear in the Placed Person ID and Placed By fields. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
    1. Click OK.
    2. Click Apply.
