There is currently no built-in feature to solely record audio and ignore video in Webex. However, it is a very simple to create a recording and then extract the audio from the recording. A third-party program is required to complete this process on Windows.

Extract Audio on a Windows Computer

1. Create a recording like you normally would. It is always recommended to "Save to Cloud" for file safety. Once your Recording is available for download, download the Recording onto your computer.
2. The recommended program for Windows users is GoldWave. With this program, the video does not have to be viewed in order to extract the audio unlike other programs. Click here to download GoldWave - Free Version. For this process, you do not need the paid version.
3. Download, install, then open GoldWave. Close the Introduction box if it pops up.
4. Click on File → Open

5. Navigate to and open the .mp4 file that you downloaded (your Webex recording).
6. You will now see the waveform of the recording.
7. Click on File → Save As

8. Save the file as an appropriate audio file type; .mp3 is recommended.

You may record a Webex session without recording any webcam video. This setting must be set before the session begins, and must be changed again if you would like to record video in a future session.

How to switch to audio only before your session

1. Navigate to webex.uconn.edu and sign in using your NetID
2. Go to Preferences
3. Click on Recording
4. In Recording Layout, chose the last two options for each row
   1. Content-only view
   2. Black view

This will ensure that no Participant videos are recorded
